As a planner I am often asked to recommend vendors to brides and grooms-to-be, and I provide a list of my favorite vendors to my booked clients. This isn’t to mean that a vendor not on the list is not a great choice or team player, we probably haven’t had the chance to work together…yet.
To help you get to know some of my favorite vendors better, I thought I’d begin a vendor interview series for this blog. The first vendor I’d like to spotlight is Jazz Heights Band, a mixed genre band that I have had the opportunity to see rockin’ the house at more than one wedding! Enock Musoke Kibalizi, a cofounder and the band manager agreed to sit down with me and talk about his awesome band.
WHAT IS JAZZ HEIGHTS AND WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE BAND?
The members of the band are young Ugandans with a passion for music. We are all active members in our church choirs and hold down full-time professional jobs. We have been performing together as Jazz Heights Band at weddings and special events since 2010.
The inspiration behind the band comes from a drive to break the negative labels often put to musicians, and together with all the members we chose to rise above this and named the band, Jazz Heights.
WHAT IS YOUR STYLE AND WHAT DOES A CLIENT GET WHEN THEY BOOK YOU?
We play a wide range of music styles from the oldies to soft jazz, the all-time favorites to the new and current songs on the Ugandan music scene. As well as a 5-piece band and vocalists, Jazz Heights also provides a PA system for hire. The members of the band also take on students who want to learn how to play a musical instrument.
THE IDEAL CLIENT
Because we play at everything from weddings to company parties to benefit dinners, our range of clientele is vast and we do not have a narrowed down ideal client type. The band is very flexible about music styles and location, and have preformed at events all over Uganda.
WHY SHOULD A BRIDE OR GROOM-TO-BE CHOOSE JAZZ HEIGHTS OVER ANOTHER LIVE BAND OR DJ?
We are a professional band with a large and ever growing song selection which we always present in our own unique style.
TIPS TO COUPLES WHO ARE PLANNING THEIR WEDDING
1. Every couple should know what they want. Your personalities go a long way in determining what type of entertainment you are most comfortable with.
2. Know your guests and what they are most likely to enjoy.
3. Know what instruments are being provided and the song list.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE?
In the near future we hope to expand the scope of services we offer to include décor, catering and baking services.
